This shopping street is close to the south exit of Shimokitazawa station. Despite the current tough economic situation, many young shoppers visit the shopping street day and night, thanks to its convenient location (a ten-minute train journey from both Shinjuku and Shibuya). This made the shopping street famous for a special and bustling atmosphere. Therefore, unlike other shopping streets, this shopping street need not take counter measures against vacant stores and large-scale shopping malls. On the contrary, symbiotic relations and ripple effects have been nurtured between the two, which is hardly seen in other areas. Currently, construction work is going on, as Odakyu Line has been moved to the underground, and so they are eagerly waiting for the new station building and city planning road to be completed as soon as possible.

However, the situation has been changing since then, as the whole Shimokitazawa area has become known as “the town for the youth”. This change can been seen in that the number of extant local stores is declining, while the number of stores targeting at young shoppers such as music related items, restaurants and large-scale chain stores is increasing.
